Fees & Billing
FEES:
It is essential that the legal fees charged be fair both to the client and to the lawyer. Depending on the nature of the engagement, our fees are:
- a fixed fee for the task undertaken; or
- based upon the time expended at an agreed hourly rate; or
- based upon time expended at an agreed hourly rate but within a stated range
We are always open to discussing alternative fee structures.
We encourage clients and prospective clients to inquire about the anticipated charges for a matter. Without this information, it is difficult for any client to make an informed decision to engage legal counsel.
BILLING:
For fees based upon time expended, we customarily bill on a monthly basis. We ask our clients to review invoices and remit payment within ten days of receipt.
For certain matters, such as the preparation and execution of estate planning documents, we present our invoice for the balance due at the time the documents are executed. For fixed fee engagements, we usually ask for payment in advance of part or all of the quoted fee.
Clients should never hesitate to call us about an invoice if they have any questions or if they believe the invoice does not accurately reflect the engagement agreement.
